Showtime has announced the movies, TV shows and sports programming coming to the service in April. The Showtime April 2022 lineup includes The First Lady, a brand-new anthology series that highlights the impact of America’s first ladies on U.S. politics and peers behind the walls of the White House into both their public and personal lives.
The inaugural season zooms in on the stories of Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt, played by Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson, respectively. They are joined by their presidential counterparts played by O. T. Fagbenle, Aaron Eckhart and Kiefer Sutherland.
The Showtime April 2022 slate also includes The Man Who Fell to Earth, in which the fate of the human species is at stake. The show, which is based on the Walter Tevis novel and David Bowie-led film of the same name, follows an extraterrestrial played by Chiwetel Ejiofor who arrives on Earth at a pivotal moment for humanity.
Laughter is the best medicine in I Love That for You, a new comedy series created by SNL alumna, Vanessa Bayer. The show follows Joanna Gold (Bayer) as she balances her efforts to become a home shopping channel TV host, develop her first adult romance and shed her reputation as “that cancer girl,” all while she juggles her professional relationships with the network’s star and the channel’s owner.
Also included in the Showtime April 2022 schedule is the season six finale of Billions. As Senior and Chuck’s friends take Chuck on a retreat to regroup, Prince looks to consolidate his wins, Wendy tries to figure out Prince’s bigger picture and Sacker reckons with some old skeletons in her closet.
Additionally, Super Pumped‘s first season comes to an end as Bill Gurley and Travis Kalanick go head-to-head in a final, last-ditch effort for Uber. Gurley and his backers present Travis with an ultimatum that will change the course of the company forever as Travis searches the city for supporters to rally in his defense.
The Emmy-winning Showtime Sports series All Access returns to profile undefeated WBC and IBF world champion Errol Spence Jr. as he prepares for his bout with WBA champion Yordenis Ugás. Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin and rising star Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora also go head-to-head in a 154-pound division fight.
A week later they are followed by Radzhab Butaev and Elimantas Stanioinis’ high-stakes clash, in which the former attempts to defend his undefeated world title. These matches lead up to the pay-per-view battle between undefeated 147-pound world champion Errol Spence Jr. and fellow world champion Yordenis Ugas on Saturday, April 16.
In an equally exciting lineup for Bellator MMA, unbeaten featherweight champ A.J. McKee takes on two-division champion Patricio Pitbull. A week later, women storm the octagon in back-to-back fight nights in Hawaii featuring brawls between Juliana Velasquez and Liz Carmouche as well as Cris Cyborg and Arlene Blencowe on Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, respectively.
Showtime also celebrates the arrival of C’mon C’mon. In the A24 film from writer-director Mike Mills, radio journalist, Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix), and his young nephew (Woody Norman) forge a tenuous but transformational relationship when they are unexpectedly thrown together on a cross-country road trip in this delicate and deeply moving story about the connections between adults and children and the past and the future.
Additionally, subscribers will have access to a multitude of film collections. The “Politics & The Presidency” collection features in-depth documentaries on presidential history. The “Survival Missions collection” will showcase the power of human perseverance.
