SonicFox and Top Tekken player Shadow20z are potentially on the list
The fighting game community has grabbed the attention of celebrities and popular musicians several times over the years, and it appears a new challenger may be lying in wait. This morning, FGC Twitter has been buzzing after a few tweets from rapper Waka Flocka Flame appear to have put out a fighting game challenge.
According to Flocka, he is confident in his abilities in fighting games, and he went on to put it out there that no one would want to test that. In a couple of follow up tweets, Waka mentioned one of the best fighting game players we’ve ever seen, SonicFox, and top Tekken player Shadow20z, and it’s looking like these two could end up being the first to take on the rapper in battle.
“How y’all not know I’m nice with FGC games? Don’t nobody want the 💨” wrote Waka Flocka in a tweet yesterday. Essentially, this tweet sends the messaging to a community full of competitors that the musician could beat any challengers who might step to him in fighting games.
Of course, this tweet quickly elicited responses from several major names in the FGC who are willing to test their might against the rapper.
Fighting game legend Justin Wong jumped in and said that he hopes the two can play Street Fighter 6 against each other. Capcom Cup 2017 champion MenaRD threw his hat in the ring as well and said he’d play Flocka in Street Fighter for any amount of money.
Dominique “SonicFox” McLean responded to Flocka’s initial tweet with a simple “What’s good?” and fans seems to really be behind the idea of these two squaring off.
Whats good?

Before responding to SonicFox, though, Flocka sent out another tweet saying that he heard that Shadow20z is good at Tekken and he wants to see it. Shadow20z responded saying “let’s run the set,” so this could be the first match up we see after Waka Flocka threw down the gauntlet.

Later on in the evening, Flocka addressed the fact that people were bringing up SonicFox in this discussion. The following tweet has some fightin’ words directed right at McLean.
“Somebody mentioned @SonicFox ?? He’s BBQ chicken too. He don’t want it with Waka . 🍗🍽️” wrote Waka Flocka. He went on to share a few more words for McLean.

At the time of writing this, it isn’t clear just yet if we’ll actually see these two match ups come to fruition. Based on the discourse so far, it is fair to assume that if Flocka does face Shadow20z, it will be in Tekken 7.
As for SonicFox, if this bout does play out, it could very well be in any one of a slew of different fighting games. McLean is incredibly accomplished in the Mortal Kombat series, Skullgirls, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, but their ability to pick up and play just about anything is second to none.
Back in 2016, rapper Lupe Fiasco took on fighting game legend BST|Daigo in a Street Fighter 5 exhibition. The three-out-of-five set came down to the wire and resulted in Fiasco walking away the victor, and the spectacle certainly grabbed the attention of the FGC as a whole.
We can only hope to see Waka Flocka lock horns with some of the FGC’s best and bring the community more exciting celebrity exhibitions.
