During this year’s VMAs, Paramount+ dropped the full trailer for its upcoming movie On the Come Up! The new trailer showcases the adaptation in all its hip-hop glory, giving fans an exciting and heartwrenching taste of what to expect.
With a backing track to match, the trailer showcases how integral hip-hop is to the story as it offers a greater look at Bri, the film’s protagonist, and her ambitious spirit as she becomes even more enmeshed in her local hip-hop and rap scene. Viewers also see that while rapping is a passion of Bri’s, it’s also deeply intertwined with her family — past, present, and future.
Adapted from the Angie Thomas novel of the same name, On the Come Up follows 16-year-old Bri, who aspires to be one of the greatest rappers of all time — after she wins her first rap battle, of course. The daughter of a now-deceased hip-hop legend, Bri is following in mighty footsteps. When she releases her first song, it goes viral… but for all the wrong reasons, placing Bri in the center of a controversy. Now, she must choose to remain true to her beliefs or bend to a false image.
