There’s love in the city’s heart for Brooklyn’s own Christopher Wallace, also affectionately known as Big Poppa and Biggie Smalls. The late Brooklyn native’s music, life, and legacy were honored by displaying a new interactive nine-foot sculpture. The sculpture is made of stainless steel and bronze and dubbed — “Sky’s The Limit in the County of Kings.”
Long Live Notorious B.I.G.
The statue is located at the northeast corner of Prospect Street and Washington Street in Brooklyn at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. It was designed and created by sculptor Sherwin Banfield in partnership with Brooklyn business groups, the DUMBO Improvement District, Dumbo, and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP).
“I’m a traditionally trained figurative sculptor,” Banefield said in his tribute to Biggie. “and I wanted to take something classic then remix or sample it with something fresh.”
This sculpture is part of NYC Parks’ “Art in the Park” program and will be exhibited through the spring of 2023.
Recently, Meta announced they would have a concert featuring Big’s Bad Boy compadre, Diddy, who earlier this year said he would only answer to ‘Love’ or ‘Brother Love.’
Marvel x Biggie Smalls
In May, Marvel Comics released a variant cover of Deadpool #1 (2022) featuring the Notorious B.I.G. sitting on a throne in his iconic lumberjack fit. The decision to feature the late “Juicy” rapper was to celebrate what would have been his 50th birthday
