Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, famously known as Nas, became a victim of a nasty burglary after two unidentified men broke into the 49-year-old rapper’s Calabasas home on Saturday (Nov. 12). There was no one in the house but the robbers managed to take away bags full of unknown items.
A Joyous Weekend Turns Into Shock…
Rapper Nas, whose real name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, was celebrating the weekend with the arrival of his King’s Disease III album in collaboration with Hit-Boy. However, he wasn’t aware that the joy would be short-lived after two unidentified men managed to break into his Calabasas home.
Law enforcement revealed that the robbers broke in at around 8:30 PM PT on Saturday (Nov. 12), and it appears that they smashed a rear door, forcing their way into the rapper’s luxurious property. Per authorities, the pair “tore the place apart” and left with “at least two bags’ worth of stuff”.
However, it is unclear as to what items were taken and how valuable they were. At the time of this incident, Nas was in New York for an album release party. The robbers were captured leaving the home on a Ring security camera, and the authorities were alerted by his team shortly after. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the matter.
More About Nas…
Rooted in East Coast hip hop, Nas is regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time. The rapper’s debut album Illmatic (1994), received universal acclaim and is also remembered as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Last year, his album “King’s Disease” won a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
Nas was previously involved in a highly publicised feud with Jay-Z, recall the diss track “Ether”? It’s because of this feud, along with record-breaking albums like “Stillmatic”, “God’s Son” and “Street’s Disciple”, that helped restore his critical standing. After this feud, Nas was signed to Jay-Z’s Def Jam Recordings in 2006. He took to a more politicized and provocative style with his album “Hip Hop Is Dead”.
If you’re not aware, in 2020, after Doja Cat was accused of participating in racist conversations, Nas referenced her in “Ultra Black”, calling her the “the opposite of ultra black”. However, some believed that he meant to verbally abuse his ex-wife Kelis.
On this, Doja Cat said in an interview that she has no interest in “beefing” with Nas saying “I fucking love Nas, thank fucking god he noticed me. I love Nas. So I don’t give a shit. He can say whatever he wants. I really don’t care”. After this, Nas revealed that it wasn’t meant to be a diss.
Nas’s latest album, King’s Disease III marks his sixteenth studio album. The album was released through Mass Appeal Records on Nov. 11, 2022. This is a sequel to his grammy-winning album King’s Disease and his 2021 album King’s Disease II.
