One of the most innovative music projects to emerge from Athens will make its public debut at the 2021 Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities National Conference on Friday.
Songs from the Athens Hip-Hop Harmonic, a collaboration between local hip-hop artists and faculty members from the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will premiere at the ticketed online event that will include an interactive Q&A discussion afterward.

Co-directed by AthFactor-Liberty Entertainment CEO Montu Miller and UGA professor of saxophone Connie Frigo, the Athens Hip-Hop Harmonic explores issues and experiences of racism, inclusion, equity and social justice through music by pairing local artists Caulfield and Kxng Blanco with UGA composition faculty members Emily Koh and Peter Lane.
Original works co-created by Caulfield and Koh and Blanco and Lane were previewed at an invitation-only live event on Oct. 3 that saw the artists backed by the UGA Contemporary Chamber Ensemble and facilitated a discussion between audience members and the creators.
Miller, Frigo, Caulfield and Koh will be featured as guest speakers at the online conference, which is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Friday. To register, visit a2ru.org/event/2021-a2ru-national-conference-sharing-stories-the-case-for-art.
