Portsmouth, VA – Missy Elliott is a highly decorated artist who has now been honored with her own street in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Missy Elliott Boulevard was recently unveiled in her hometown and the influential rapper humbly reacted to the high distinction on Wednesday (September 7).
“#757 VA my Grandma who passed when I was young always told me to stay PRAYED UP & DREAM BIG,” she wrote. “A BlvdTears of JoyI have been BLESSED so much but this right here hits my heart differently.”
She added: “I am so HUMBLY GRATEFUL to be from P-TOWN 2up2down The ENTIRE VA.”

Fans and celebrities alike showered Missy with praise in her the comment section of her Instagram post, with adulation coming from the likes of Solange, Anitta, P.J. Morton and Big Freedia.
Missy also confirmed on Twitter that she’s going to pull up to her BLVD in P-Town herself in the near future to take a picture with the street sign bearing her namesake.
The Portsmouth City Council voted unanimously in August to rename a local street in the entertainment sector to Missy Elliott Boulevard.
“I am forever GRATEFUL P-TOWN VA #757 LOVE,” Missy wrote on Twitter after receiving word of her hometown’s decision at the time.
The flowers continue to pour in for Missy in 2022. After MTV announced that Nicki Minaj would be receiving the 2022 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at August’s VMAs ceremony, she saluted Missy, who was the first female rapper to achieve the feat in 2019, for being a trailblazer and inspiration.

“It’s always gonna be first Missy Elliott,” Weezy told Fox Sports host Nick Wright. “She’s a huge influence of everything I’ve ever done. JAY-Z is the best ever to speak. Biggie, obviously. Then I have the whole Goodie Mob. Then I have UGK.”
