An elderly woman has been found dead in an upturned car in an area of trees by the A21 after she went missing from her Croydon home. Eileen Johnston, 88, was found near Tonbridge on November 8 shortly before 2pm and was declared dead at the scene.
Officers are trying to determine what happened to Eileen and an investigation has opened to establish the movements of the elderly woman in the two days leading up to the fatal crash. Met Police received a report that Eileen was missing two days before her tragic death.
Eileen’s family has been informed of her death and police have opened an investigation into the fatal collision. Eileen was driving a silver Nissan Micra, which she was found in, and Kent Police are appealing for information and dashcam footage to help with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Lynn Wilczek, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “We are working to establish Eileen’s movements between Sunday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 8 and have been checking CCTV and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras in a number of locations between her home and where her car was eventually found.”
The A21 was closed southbound for nine hours on November 8 following the accident. Police, ambulance crews, and firefighters attended the scene shortly before 2pm.
DI Wilczek added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen Eileen, or who thinks they may have seen her silver Nissan Micra to contact us. Please also check any dashcam you may have as these may hold important footage.”
Anyone with information should call 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk. People should quote reference RY/MS/121/22. Dashcam footage can also be uploaded online .
