Deicide and guitarist Jack Owen cut up after almost 20 years collectively in 2016. Owen rejoined his former Cannibal Corpse bandmate Chris Barnes in Six Toes Below in 2017, and so they’ve been cranking out dying metallic riffs ever since.
However what occurred between Owen and Deicide? Why the cut up in any case that point? In line with Owen in an interview with RichardMetalFan, there was an argument about writing credit between himself and Deicide drummer-slash-songwriter Steve Asheim. Owen alleges that Asheim modified a number of notes to realize credit, and when Owen complained, Deicide vocalist Glen Benton sided with Asheim.
“Oh, it was an issue with new stuff I used to be writing. I walked into apply and Steve had re-recorded it and altered notes right here and there for 3 or 4 songs that I had. It was silly on the time. However he is, like, ‘Hey, I modified the notes so I get writing credit score.’ And I am, like, ‘That is not how the songs go, although.’ And Glen‘s, like, ‘It’s now.’ So I actually walked out and ghosted them. [Laughs] Afterward, it was like, ‘Hey, dude, you are out.'”
Regardless of the rift between Owen and the 2 aforementioned Deicide members, Owen solely had good issues to say about Deicide guitarist Kevin Quirion.
“Kevin‘s superior. He’s a man that may do something for you. And he’s so motivated so far as writing and contributing and serving to out on the street with something… However, yeah, Kevin is superior. He wrote killer stuff on there — very thrashy, however me and him labored effectively collectively. There’s loads of co-writing on there between me and him.”
Blabbermouth notes that Asheim had a barely totally different story concerning the cut up in a 2017 interview with Metallic Wani.
“We have been simply sort of writing the report, and we have been going over the songs,” stated Asheim on the time. “Me and Glen, we have been, like, ‘We wanna redo the songs.’ It is like we had accomplished them — about 9 or twelve, no matter what number of songs. They have been all proper, however we weren’t actually psyched about them. So we determined to rewrite them. And Jack did not actually prefer it. And he sort of left sooner or later and simply by no means got here again. In order that was that.”
