On Tuesday (July 30), the New Jersey native’s household launched an official assertion confirming Chino’s passing through his Instagram account.
“The household of Derek Keith Barbosa, professionally referred to as Chino XL, is devastated to relay the information of his passing. Chino died on the morning of Sunday, July 28, 2024 at dwelling. He was 50,” the assertion, which might be seen under, reads. “Chino is survived by his youngsters, Chynna, Bella, Lyric, Kiyana; his stepson Shawn; grandchildren Emmy, Emery, Chris, Luis, and Dyani; his mom, Carole; and his former longtime accomplice Stephanie.”
The memo continues, “In a joint assertion, his daughters replicate: ‘Our father had many titles — King of Punchlines, Puerto Rican Superhero — however an important one was Lady Dad. Chino XL was a revered lyricist from East Orange, N.J. who rose to prominence within the mid-Nineties. He launched his debut album Right here to Save You All in 1996. He would go on to drop three extra solo studio albums; I Instructed You So (2001), Poison Pen (2006) and Ricanstruction: The Black Rosary (2012).
