Carrie Underwood said one final goodbye to her dog Ace, but she won’t soon forget him.
On Sunday, the 39-year-old country music singer’s heart was “so full” when she accepted her eighth win at the 2022 Grammy Awards. After her faith-based album My Savior was awarded Best Root Gospel Album, Carrie went on to walk the red carpet with her husband, Mike Fisher, and later performed her new single “Ghost Story.” Unfortunately, the American Idol alum experienced a heartbreaking loss when she got back home.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Carrie revealed that her dog of 12 years had died shortly after she wrapped up her memorable evening. She opened up about the personal moment alongside a photo collection of Ace through the years. “Last night my sweet Ace left this world…he will forever live on in our hearts and be forever missed,” Carrie captioned it. “He was there for me when I was on my own trying to figure out life when it was at its craziest!”

She continued: “He was with me through 3 houses, 6 tours and 2 kids…always ready to snuggle and play…through all the highs and lows. He was a true friend and a good boy till the very end. I love you, sweet Ace…see you on the other side…💔.”
After seeing the Oklahoma native pay tribute to her four-legged friend, celebrity friends immediately flooded the comments section with supportive and loving words. “🙌😢 so sorry. I know how bad that hurts. Sendin love your way,” wrote fellow country superstar Miranda Lambert. “💔 🐾 🙏🏻,” added TV personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck. “🙏🏼💔🙏🏼,” commented Thousand Foot Krutch frontman Trevor McNevan. “I’m so so so sorry, Carrie! 😭 Lots of love to you and your fam… xo!” said singer-songwriter Caitlyn Smith.
Carrie’s fans also let her know that they are thinking of her. “Oh no!!! I’m so sorry Carrie. Dogs are 100% members of the family and it is so hard saying goodbye. Sending you love ❤️ 🐾,” one person wrote. “I’m so sorry Carrie! Ace sure was one important member of this whole fandom, there wasn’t Carrie without Ace. He sure will be missed! 🐶💔,” another added. “I’m so so sorry. Such great joy yesterday and such sadness all mixed in. 😢,” a different fan said.

What’s more, some brought up the unique way Carrie memorialized Ace in her 2007 song “The More Boys I Meet,” in which she sings about her love for him. “’The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog’ ❤️ When I saw you for the first time live you even said ‘ACE!’ when you sang that song,” a follower commented.
Though the country singer didn’t share how old Ace was, she recently shared that, to her, he would always be a young pup. On March 23, Carrie celebrated National Puppy Day on Instagram with pics featuring Ace alongside her other dogs, Penny and Zero. “It’s #NationalPuppyDay!” she wrote. “My babies might be all grown up now (even got one in diapers), but they’ll always be puppies in my heart! Be extra sweet to those furry family members today! ❤️.”
