As one of the biggest podcast production companies, you’d expect Wondery to be interested in the new subscription features offered by the likes of Apple and Spotify. Or would you? Wondery was, after all, recently acquired by Amazon Music, so competitor concerts might be a barrier. However, it seems that they are not.
The Hollywood Reporter explained that Wondery will bring its Wondery+ subscription service to Apple Podcasts later this month, then the latter’s subscription features go live. Wondery will charge $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year, the same price as its subscription tier costs directly on its website.
Perhaps the news should not come as a surprise: if Amazon is thinking about its own premium podcasts strategy (beyond Audible, behind whose paywall a number of original podcasts live) it, what better way to monitor market developments than being part of rival platforms’ subscription offerings?
