The unique experience was nominated for a Drama Desk Award.
After 12 years and 30,414 performances, New York’s unique traveling theatre, The Ride, is putting on the brakes.
Guided by two hosts, the custom-built, sideways-facing coach takes its final ride October 16 at 3:45 PM. During the 75-minute entertainment, an eclectic mix of performers—from ballerinas to freestyle rappers—are scattered around the city, blending in with street life for an element of surprise.
The Ride, which originally rolled into Times Square October 14, 2010, was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.
Co-CEO and Chief Creative Officer Richard Humphrey recently stated, “I could not be prouder of the talented team who produced shows in every type of weather, adapting to traffic jams, street fairs, and political conventions to bring the energy of the greatest city in the world to over a million visitors… We hope that this is not the end for The Ride and to be able to announce future iterations.”
The Ride‘s sister experience, The Tour, will close simultaneously as the company ceases operations.
